Friends of Barbra is an Australian cabaret trio which specialises in performing the music of Barbra Joan Streisand and a slew of other musical icons.
And on the eve of the world famous Melbourne Cup horse racing event - Monday 3 November, 2008 - these naughty boys returned home to Melbourne for one night only.
Appearing at the acclaimed Butterfly Club in South Melbourne for the first time, this was an intimate, unplugged cabaret experience featuring ten years worth of award-winning material.
Did we mention intimate? Yes, this was an up close and personal, Friends-of-Barbra-in-your-lap kind of show. Capacity crowds squeezed into the cabaret salon at the Butterfly Club and were treated to a "Best Of" style show that looked back on ten years of thrills and spills with these hilarious boys.
In their inimitable style Friends of Barbra combines comic silliness with musical know-how in cabaret that features a range of genres and musical styles exquisitely arranged.
From schmoozing with the have-nots at Manhattan's finest (B-list) parties to sharing a West Village dressing room with the irrepressible Joan Rivers, Friends of Barbra has fine-tuned it's comedy cabaret know-how and they're ready to sing their way into cabaret boyband history.
Friends of Barbra is Michael Smallwood, Luke Gallagher and Nigel Ubrihien - three gorgeous guys known for serving up their own brand of ridiculous fun for intelligent people.
Featuring musical morsels from a smorgasbord of superstars including Luciano Pavarotti, Britney Spears, Annie Lennox, Barry Gibb, The Brady Bunch, Donna Summer, Kermit the Frog and Barbra Joan Streisand, Friends of Barbra is a tour-de-force of no-holds-barred camp cabaret.
Winners of an Australian Green Room Award for “Most Outstanding Musical Arrangements in Cabaret” Friends of Barbra has played four sell-out seasons in New York, seven sell-out seasons in Melbourne and one in Sydney.
Michael Smallwood, Luke Gallagher and Nigel Ubrihien continue to tour the world with Friends of Barbra having built a strong following for this unique and cheeky act in both Australia and in the USA since they launched in 1998.
